Why leap years?
We need an extra day because the earth orbits around the sun. The problem is that it takes the earth about 365 days and 6 hours to circle all the way around the sun so every fourth year we need to add an extra day to compensate for this. The extra day in a leap years is always February 29. This is called a leap day.
